Your classic car isn't just a way to get around. It's an investment, a hobby, and sometimes the thing you think about when you should be working. Standard auto insurance wasn't built to protect it.
A regular auto policy pays you based on depreciation. For a car that's going up in value, not down, that math works against you. Classic car insurance uses agreed value, which locks in what your car is actually worth before anything happens to it.
At Augustyniak Insurance Group in Jacksonville, we write classic car and antique car insurance through four specialty carriers. We compare agreed value options, match coverage to how you use the car, and make sure your liability limits protect everything else you own.
Classic car insurance is surprisingly affordable. We regularly write policies for $300 to $400 a year on vehicles worth $40,000 or more. Try getting that rate on your daily driver.
Hagerty's own data shows their premiums run about 36% less than what you'd pay on a daily driver. That tracks with what we see in our office. The reason is simple: these cars are driven less, stored better, and maintained more carefully than anything else on the road.
"I have several collectable vehicles for pleasure use, my every day vehicles, and my home with Augustyniak Insurance Group. Julie always searches for the best deal between all the insurance companies that they work with. I have been a very satisfied customer for several years now."

This is the single most important thing to understand before you buy classic car insurance. These three terms sound similar but they pay very differently after a total loss.
| Valuation Type | How It Works | What You Get Paid |
|---|---|---|
| Agreed Value | You and the carrier agree on the car's value before the policy starts. No depreciation. | The full agreed amount, minus your deductible. No surprises. |
| Stated Value | You state a value, but the carrier can pay the lesser of stated value or actual cash value. | Whichever is less. Often a lower payout than you expected. |
| Actual Cash Value | Standard auto insurance method. Pays depreciated market value at the time of loss. | What the carrier decides the car is worth after depreciation. |
Every carrier we write classic car business through, including Hagerty, American Collectors, Nationwide, and National General, offers agreed value coverage. Our goal is to place your collector vehicle on an agreed value policy that protects its real collector value.
Agreed Value
$85,000
Full agreed amount paid. No depreciation. No surprises.
Stated Value
$12K-$85K
Carrier pays the lesser amount. Often less than expected.
Actual Cash Value
$12,000
Depreciated value only. Ignores restoration investment.
Example: 1970 Chevelle SS restored to $85,000 fair market value. Payout varies by valuation method.

No obligation. No pressure. Real advice from a local team.A classic car policy covers the same basics as your regular auto. But there are a few extras that matter when your car is worth more than most people's daily drivers.
Full insured value paid after a covered total loss. No depreciation applied.
Pays for damage from an accident, regardless of who is at fault.
Covers theft, vandalism, fire, hail, hurricanes, and falling objects when caused by a covered event.
Bodily injury and property damage coverage if you cause an accident.
Coverage for replacement parts you keep in your garage. Hagerty covers up to $750; American Collectors up to $500.
Guaranteed flatbed towing to protect your vehicle from hook-and-chain damage.
We write classic car business through four carriers. All four offer agreed value. But they're not interchangeable. Here's what makes each one different.
Hagerty is the largest specialty collector vehicle insurer in the country, with 2.8 million insured vehicles. Their Guaranteed Value coverage pays the full insured amount after a covered total loss with no depreciation. Hagerty has no fixed mileage limits for pleasure use.
Their in-house parts specialists can track down OEM and NOS parts. Hagerty also owns the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, held every March just 30 miles from our Jacksonville office.
American Collectors has insured collector vehicles since 1976 and holds a 4.9-star rating from over 21,000 Trustpilot reviews. They offer flexible mileage tiers (2,500, 5,000, 7,500, or unlimited pleasure use) and automatic inflation guard that adjusts your agreed value up to 6% annually.
Their disaster relocation benefit reimburses up to $250 to move your vehicle during a named storm, which matters in Florida.
Both carriers offer classic car programs with agreed value and competitive pricing. Nationwide is particularly strong for clients who already carry home or auto coverage through them, creating multi-policy savings across the household.
After 20 years of writing collector car policies in Jacksonville, we've seen the same mistakes come through our door over and over. Here are the ones that cost people real money.
This is the most common mistake we see. Someone buys a '68 Mustang, calls their regular auto carrier, and adds it to their personal policy. The carrier assigns it actual cash value based on age and mileage. A car the owner has put $45,000 into gets valued at $6,000 because the carrier's system sees a 57-year-old vehicle with high mileage.
We had a client come to us after a theft. His carrier paid him $4,800 on a car he'd spent three years restoring. There was nothing we could do after the fact. Agreed value has to be in place before the loss happens.
You buy a project car for $12,000 and insure it at that value. Two years and $50,000 in parts and labor later, you've got a $65,000 car insured for $12,000. If you don't update your agreed value as you go, the gap grows every month. American Collectors' inflation guard helps, but 6% a year doesn't cover a full frame-off restoration.
Some owners figure they barely drive the car, so why not save money with low liability limits? Here's the problem: if you cause an accident in your Corvette and your liability is 10/20/10, everything above that comes out of your pocket. Your homestead exemption protects your house, but your bank accounts, investments, and other vehicles are exposed.
We recommend matching your classic car liability to your daily driver limits. On a $350/year policy, the difference between minimum and 250/500 is often less than $40.
Your Classic Deserves Better Than a Standard Auto Policy
We'll compare agreed value quotes from all four carriers and walk you through the differences. Takes about 10 minutes on the phone.
There's no universal definition. Each carrier draws the line a little differently. But the general idea is this: if your vehicle has collector value and it's going up in worth, it probably qualifies. Here's a general breakdown.
| Category | Typical Age | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | 20+ years | 1970 Chevelle SS, 1987 Buick Grand National, 1990s Supra |
| Antique | 25+ years | 1957 Chevy Bel Air, 1965 Mustang, Model A Ford |
| Vintage | Pre-1975 | 1969 Camaro Z28, 1963 Corvette Split Window |
| Hot Rod / Custom | Varies | Street rods, restomods, custom builds with documented value |
| Modern Collectible | Newer models | Limited-production vehicles with appreciating value |
Age requirements and categories vary by carrier. Not all vehicles qualify for all programs.
If you're unsure whether your vehicle qualifies, call us. We can check eligibility across all four carriers in one conversation. Some carriers are more flexible than others, especially for hot rods, restomods, and newer collectibles.
Our clients in Mandarin, Ponte Vedra, Orange Park, and throughout Northeast Florida bring us everything from Detroit muscle to European sports cars. Some of the vehicles we see most often include Ford Mustangs, Chevy Camaros, Corvettes, Chevelle SS models, Pontiac GTOs, Dodge Chargers, Challengers, Plymouth Barracudas, and classic Porsche 911s.
We also insure hot rods, restomods, vintage Ford Broncos, classic pickup trucks, and newer collectibles like late-model Shelby GT500s and limited-production vehicles. If your vehicle has collector merit and you have a separate daily driver, there's a good chance one of our four carriers will write it.
Northeast Florida is one of the best places in the country to own a classic car. The mild winters mean fewer salt-treated roads. The car show calendar runs nearly year-round. And the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, held every March just north of Jacksonville, is one of the top collector car events in the world.
The Amelia was founded by Jacksonville car collector Bill Warner in 1996 and is now owned by Hagerty. It draws over 20,000 attendees annually and generates close to $30 million in local economic impact. Broad Arrow Auctions, held alongside the concours, routinely tops $111 million in sales.
Beyond Amelia Island, Jacksonville hosts Caffeine and Octane at The Avenues mall, Cars and Coffee in Fleming Island, the Ponte Vedra Auto Show in Nocatee, cruise-ins in Orange Park, and the Classic Car Museum in St. Augustine. Whether you're in Mandarin, Riverside, the Beaches, or Green Cove Springs, you have no shortage of places to drive your collector car.

Pick the carrier and coverage that fits your vehicle and your budget. We handle the paperwork and are here when you need us.
Yes. Nationwide offers multi-policy discounts when you carry your classic car alongside standard auto or homeowners coverage. This is one of the easiest ways to save money while keeping all your policies with one agency.
If you own a home, multiple vehicles, and a classic car, bundling through our agency means one point of contact for claims, renewals, and coverage questions. We manage the whole portfolio.
If you own a home and have assets to protect, an umbrella insurance policy is worth the conversation. To qualify for umbrella coverage in Florida, your classic car policy needs to carry liability limits of at least 250/500/100 or 500/500/100, depending on the umbrella carrier.
Given how affordable classic car premiums already are, increasing your liability limits to meet umbrella requirements usually adds very little to your annual cost. It's one of the simplest ways to close a gap in your overall protection.

Mon-Fri 8:30am to 5pm. Closed 12:30-1:00 for lunch.Classic car insurance in Florida typically costs between $200 and $600 per year. Premiums depend on the vehicle's agreed value, how often you drive it, where you store it, and your driving history. Specialty carriers charge significantly less than standard auto insurance because classic cars are driven less frequently and maintained more carefully.
Agreed value means you and the insurance carrier agree on your vehicle's worth before the policy starts. If the car is totaled in a covered loss, you receive that full amount minus your deductible. There is no depreciation applied. This is different from actual cash value, which pays a depreciated amount, and stated value, which lets the carrier pay the lesser of the stated or depreciated value.
Most specialty carriers require that your classic car be stored in a secure, fully enclosed structure such as a locked garage or carport. Some carriers, including Hagerty, may be flexible about storage on a case-by-case basis. A secure garage can also lower your premium through storage discounts.
No. Every specialty classic car carrier requires you to have a separate daily-use vehicle with its own active insurance policy. Classic car insurance is designed for pleasure driving, car shows, club events, and occasional errands. It is not designed for daily commuting or regular transportation.
Yes. Augustyniak Insurance Group is an authorized Hagerty agent in Jacksonville, Florida. Hagerty sells exclusively through independent agents, which means you get the benefit of a national specialty carrier with local service from a team that knows your name and your vehicle.
Both offer agreed value coverage for collector vehicles. Hagerty has no fixed mileage limits for pleasure use and offers in-house parts sourcing for hard-to-find components. American Collectors offers flexible mileage tiers (2,500 to unlimited), automatic inflation guard up to 6% annually, and a disaster relocation benefit.
Both are well-rated carriers. The best choice depends on your vehicle, how you use it, and whether you want to bundle with other coverage. We can walk you through both options in one conversation.
If you own a home or have significant assets, an umbrella policy adds an extra $1 million or more in liability protection on top of your auto and home coverage. To qualify, your classic car policy typically needs to carry liability limits of at least 250/500/100. Given the low cost of classic car premiums, increasing your limits to meet umbrella requirements is very affordable.
Most specialty carriers cover vehicles with collector merit that are appreciating in value. This includes classic cars, antiques, vintage vehicles, hot rods, custom builds, restomods, and some modern collectibles. Exact eligibility varies by carrier. Most require the vehicle to be at least 15 to 25 years old, though exceptions are made for limited-production or high-value newer models.
Yes. Every carrier we represent typically covers your vehicle during car shows, club events, pleasure drives, and while in transit to events. Flatbed towing is generally included for roadside incidents to prevent damage from traditional hook-and-chain towing methods. Specific terms vary by policy.
