What’s a class code?

To standardize workers compensation insurance, a centralized rating bureau (NCCI) looked at thousands of different jobs and industries. They classified similar jobs together into class codes (a 4 digit number).  A class code includes a description of employee job duties found in each class code. 

  • Every worker in Florida falls under a class code.
  • Your business can have multiple class codes used when different workers performing different tasks.  
  • NCCI assigns a cost or rate for each class code. The published rate is always per $100 of payroll.
  • Premiums for workers performing low risk jobs are less than workers performing riskier job duties. 
  •  All insurance companies use the same NCCI class code rates in Florida.  So, There is no rate difference between Florida workers comp insurance companies.
